León está situado al norte de Managua. La distancia es de unos 83 km. Hasta 1855 fue la capital de Nicaragua. León tiene 180.000 habitantes, se encuentra a 110 metros sobre el nivel del mar y tiene la Universidad más antigua de América Latina.
